Firm and textured with dark berries, spices and orange peel. Medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Chocolaty finish.
Coming from a tiny vineyard of clay and limestone soils, the 2022 Aiguilhe Querre has lots of limestone-like minerality as well as notes of black cherries, licorice, truffle, and licorice. It's medium to full-bodied, with a good sense of elegance as well as fine tannins. Count me impressed.
The 2021 Château d'Aiguilhe Querre comes from a tiny 2.41-hectare vineyard that was purchased by the Querre family in 2000 and is composed of pure clay and limestone soil, very similar to the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, it has a medium-bodied, fleshy, nicely textured, fruit-loaded style as well as up-front blue fruits supported by notes of violets, chocolaty wood, and chalky minerality. It has a kiss of background oak, but it's a pleasure-bent, textured, straight-up success from the Castillon region.
The 2021 d’Aiguilhe Querre, cropped at 21 hl/ha, offers a mulberry and wildberry bouquet, plus a touch of clove and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with a menthol-tinged entry, fine depth, nice balance and a minty finish. This should drink well for 10 years.
From minuscule yields (nine hectoliters per hectare) due to both frost and hail, the 2020 Château d’Aiguilhe Querre is a solid effort offering juicy black cherry, tobacco and earthy nuances to go with medium-bodied richness on the palate. It has some firmer tannins, so give bottles a year or two. It’s a terrific Castillon based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, aged one year in 50% new French oak.
Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aging for approximately 14 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, the 2020 D'Aiguilhe Querre has an alcohol of 14.5%. Deep purple-black colored, it leaps from the glass with notes of stewed plums and cedar chest, leading to notions of wild sage, blackberry pie and Chinese five spice, plus touches of tobacco leaf and pencil lead. The medium to full-bodied palate has a sturdy, oak-influenced frame of grainy tannins, lending woody overtones to the compelling black fruits, finishing spicy
Aromas of sweet tobacco, berry and walnut husk. Iodine as well. Medium to full body with round, juicy tannins and an oyster-shell undertone at the finish. Complex and subtle. Drinkable now, but better in 2022.
From a tiny 2.41-hectare site of clay and limestone soils, the 2018 Château d'Aiguilhe Querre offers beautiful minerality as well as classic notes of black cherries, blackberries, dried flowers and spice. This medium to full-bodied, ripe, fleshy 2018 has good density, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Readers looking for a smoking value should snatch this up. The blend of the 2018 is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, and it will spend a year in 50% new French oak.
This 2.41-hectare vineyard sits atop the clay and limestone plateau of Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguilhe. It is planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare, with an average vine age of 37 years in 2018. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine will age for 12 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barrels and has 13.5% alcohol. Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 d'Aiguihe-Querre gives up exuberant notes of plum preserves, baked cherries and fruitcake with nuances of potpourri, mossy bark and a waft of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with great intensity and is laden with spicy black fruit preserves, finishing chewy.
Attractive violets and purple berries, as well as plums, leading to a palate that has a very bright, plush and quite taut build to the finish. Attractive purity and cut here. Try from 2022
This is really salty and minerally with fantastic depth. Full and intense. Such energy. Better than 2015
The 2016 D'Aiguilhe Querre is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aged for 12 months in 40% new and 60% one-year-old French oak. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it features redcurrant jelly, raspberry tart and warm black plums with touches of potpourri, cinnamon and dusty soil. The palate is medium-bodied, vibrant and refreshing with pleasant chewiness and lifted finish. 1,000 cases produced. Drink 2019-2030.
A solid core of fruit to this wine with chocolate, berry and spice. Full body, round and velvety texture.
The 2015 Château d'Aiguilhe Querre is another hidden gem represented by American Jeffrey Davies. Coming from the Côtes de Castillon and 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, it offers a little iron fist in a velvet glove style as well as classic notes of blackcurrants, plums, tobacco and earthy minerality. Ripe, full-bodied and sexy on the palate, it is a beautiful wine.
From Judge Michel Querre, this sexy 2013 Pomerol is once again a sleeper of the vintage, and is well-worth seeking out. A dark plum/purple-tinged color is followed by attractive aromas of sweet mulberry and boysenberry fruit intermixed with notions of caramel and white chocolate. Ripe, medium-bodied and complete for the vintage, it displays excellent depth and ripeness, and may turn out to be outstanding. Consume it over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2014 - 2022
11ème position sur Pomerol
A strong effort from this tiny estate of about six acres, the 2012 D'Aiguilhe Querre is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that offers up powdered rock minerality, dense plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit, an opaque ruby/purple color, medium body and outstanding concentration and depth. Rich-layered and impressively endowed, it should drink well for a decade or more. This is a major sleeper of the vintage.
Drink between 2015 and 2025
This juicy Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend is balanced and fresh with great red fruits and soft tannins. Acidity gives a crisp flavor while the fragrant smokiness allows for future development. This comes from a nine-acre, high-density, hand-picked parcel on a limestone plateau among the Querre family vineyards.
Drink from 2017.
Balanced and harmonious with chocolate and plum character. Lovely round tannins.
From this tiny 6.5 acre property, the 2010 is a powerful effort (14.5% alcohol) made largely from Merlot blended with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. Its dark plum/purple hue is followed by scents of damp earth, forest floor and red as well as black fruits. While it reveals good size and weight, the wine seems slightly monolithic. It should drink well for 7-10 years.
2017-2021
This sleeper of the vintage was cropped at 34 hectoliters per hectare, and the result is a concentrated, viscous wine revealing beautiful mulberry and black currant fruit intertwined with hints of earth and spring flowers. Terrific density and opulence as well as a tremendous finish suggest it will drink well young, yet last for 15+ years.
2010-2025
A soft, surprisingly elegant, evolved effort, this 2008 does not reveal a lot of depth, but it offers sweet black cherry fruit, a charming personality, and background oak as well as earth. Consume it over the next 5-6 years.
2009 - 2015
O = 2012, G = 8 ans
Joli nez assez discret, fruité délicat et complexe, savoureux, assez acide, long fin.
O = 2011, G = 6 ans
Mûre, cire, rond, gras, riche, dense, puissant, belle matière, long
O = 2009, G = 10 ans
Red-ruby. Reduced on the nose. Fat, sweet and pliant in the mouth, with ripe flavors of cherry, chocolate and smoke. This boasts good breadth and finishes with sweet tannins.
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, there are approximately 2,000 cases of this fabulous sleeper of the vintage. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple hue along with notes of blueberries, black raspberries, toasted bread and white chocolate. Full-bodied with superb richness, a layered texture, a multidimensional mouth that lasts nearly 40 seconds, It can easily compete with some of the top crus. Consume it over the next decade.
Red-ruby. Roasted cherry and raspberry on the nose. Creamy, lush and seamless but not overly sweet. A very broad, concentrated wine with no rough edges, and yet this is a bit youthfully inky today and not yet expressing itself. Tongue-coating tannins will require at least a few years of bottle aging
This 6-acre vineyard has produced a dark ruby/purple-colored 2003 revealing sweet black currant and mineral-infused aromas as well as flavors, medium to full body, and ripe tannin.[...]
Enjoy it for 5-7 years.

Since quantities are limited, I will keep my notes short but the 2001 is a sleeper of the vintage and probably better than the 2000. It is dense ruby/purple with gorgeous notes of sweet mocha-infused black cherry and berry fruit offered in a lush, opulent style. It should drink well for 5-7 years (04/2002).
The 2000 is cut from the same cloth as the 2001, with a dark ruby/purple color, a gorgeous sweet perfume, and a long, heady, lush taste. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012.
